Graveyard of Fireflies: A Classic of Animation
December 19, 2010As a fan of anime movies, I have never considered Japanese animation as children-only films. They certainly have different categories for different age groups, but it can’t be stated that they are only for kids. After all, what kind of animated film will make an adult cry. In this short article, I would like to provide a brief review of one of such Japanese animated films, Graveyard of Fireflies (1988).
A brief explanation should be provided in case you are interested in getting college term papers writing or term papers writing helponGraveyard of Fireflies writing you have to create. The basis of this anime is a 1967 semi-biographical novel of the same name by Akiyuki Nosaka. The plot revolves around narrating the experience of two starving orphans, the 14 year-old Seita and his younger sister Setsuko, in the setting of Second World War Japan. The main idea of the film is anti-war propaganda. I can personally state that there is hardly a more efficient way of showing the horrors of wars than showing little drawn kids starving.
The animation in the film is good, although it is not the strongest point in the film. Personally, I think that the strongest point in the film is making the viewers of the film enter into a similar emotional state while watching, regardless of their race, age, nationality, etc. I am not ashamed to say that tears came from my eyes during this film, and I know for sure that I was not the only one.
